Norman Snarks Google

I was catching up on my UCD-related reading today, and noticed that WebWord blogged an article at UIGarden.net in which a kind-of-bitchy Don Norman – yes, that Don Norman – snarks at Google.

In “The Truth About Google’s So-Called Simplicity”, Norman dings Google.com for being, among other things, “deceptive”. Here are some quotes:

  • “Look, I like Google. It’s a great search engine. But I am sick and tired of hearing people praise its clean, elegant look.”
  • “Is Google simple? No. Google is deceptive. It hides all the complexity by simply showing one search box on the main page.”

I guess you just have to come off like a Fox News pundit when you reach the top of your field…still, it seems like Norman and Nielsen are shooting from the hip a lot as of late.

But of course I’m not their target audience. They’re not talking to me. They’re talking to the media and to the C-levels…maybe they respond better to this stuff.
