I Just *Love* When The Nav Labels Rotate Away From My Cursor…

Just noticed a tweet pointing out this designer’s Flash homepage.

Creative? Undoubtedly yes. Also annoying and a bit nauseating.

I’m not going to get on a usability soapbox about this. It speaks for itself. And it? speaks a mixed message.

Wow! That site is creative but I also agree that it is annoying! It took a few seconds to load first of all. It is very confusing once it loads! I think this designer broke every usability rule there is. The way the graphic rotates with text on it is hard to follow. I also didn’t understand all the text that was around the graphic that turns on the page. Less is better in many instances and this would be one of them. One of the things I do like about the website is that the use of colors is great and they seem to go well together.

When it comes to the overall look of the website, many people may say it is cool. However, when it comes to usability I think most would agree it isn’t a usable site. With small text and overlapping text, a user could not even read the text to see what part of the website they want to go to. When I clicked on random text (because I couldn’t read the text itself), it would go to a basic page with blurry graphics on the top and a simple article. Overall, this site is a usability nightmare!
